Back / Leg complaints
Do you suffer from back and leg pain?
Back and leg pain can be intense. The pain starts in your back and shoots down your leg. Walking becomes difficult, sitting for long periods is impossible, and sometimes you feel tingling or loss of strength in your leg.
Perhaps it arose suddenly after a wrong movement. Or it gradually got worse. People often immediately think of a herniated disc, but radiating leg pain can also have other causes.
Time to get some clarity. We won’t do that with complicated stories about radiculopathy or discogenic lumbar sciatica complaints. We’ll just explain clearly what’s going on and how we can help you. We’ll examine your back and leg, listen to your story, and make a plan together.

The treatment
What can you expect when you visit our practice with back/leg complaints?
When you come in with back and leg pain, we start with a thorough consultation. Where exactly is the pain? How did it start? What makes it worse or better? Do you feel tingling or loss of strength?
We will then examine your back, leg, and movement. We will also test your strength and sensation to see if there is any nerve irritation. Based on all this information, you will receive a clear explanation of what is going on.
The good news: in 75% of people with a herniated disc, the leg pain disappears on its own within 3 to 6 months. Surgery is often unnecessary. We help you through this period with treatments that reduce pain and improve movement. We also explain what you can and cannot do, and dispel misconceptions about back pain.
Even if your symptoms persist after a herniated disc or surgery, we can help you. We will look at both physical and mental factors that play a role.

FAQ
These questions are asked us frequently
How many treatments do I usually need?
That depends on the severity and cause of your symptoms. With a herniated disc, natural recovery often takes 3 to 6 months. We will guide you through this period with treatments that help relieve pain and aid recovery. The number of sessions varies from person to person.
Do I need to have an X-ray or MRI scan?
Vaak niet. Gezonde mensen zonder klachten kunnen ook een hernia op een scan hebben. Een scan is meestal alleen nuttig als er sprake is van ernstige symptomen of als operatie wordt overwogen. We bespreken dit met je.
Can I continue to exercise with back and leg pain?
Yes, in most cases exercise is good for you. We will help you find the right balance between rest and activity. Complete bed rest is usually not recommended.
Can I also visit in the evening or on weekends?
Yes, we have extended opening hours, including evenings. This means you can always visit us.
Is physical therapy for back and leg problems covered?
Usually, yes, depending on your insurance. You often need supplementary insurance for physical therapy. We are happy to help you check this.
Do I need a referral from my family doctor?
No, you can contact us directly. In complex situations, it may be useful to consult with your family doctor or specialist.
